The Gay Capital of Europe

Sitges is a stunning town on Spain's Costa Brava - just Southwest of Barcelona. Known for its many beautiful Mediterranean beaches, waterfront promenade, charming old town, and dozens of gay bars and clubs, Sitges attracts visitors from all over the globe.

Accessible as a day trip (30 minutes by train) from Barcelona, or as it's own distination, Sitges has loads to offer the LGBT traveler.

Beaches Galore

Soak up the sun during the day on one of Sitges' beaches. With the majority of Summer travelers being LGBT, there isn't just one "Gay Beach" but many. You'll find rainbow flags flying at most of the beaches in town including Platja de Sitges and Platja San Sebastia. Depending on which beach you choose you're likely to find beachgoers that have elected to not wear bathing suits on these clothing optional beaches.

If you're in search of a clothing optional beach with a bit more seclusion, you can head Southwest of town to the Playa del Muerto. It's a bit of a trek to get there, but most visitors find it worth the effort. You'll find chairs for rent and a small restaurant and bar at Playa del Muerto. On your way there you may notice a wooded cruising area across the railroad just before the path down to the beach.

Charming Old-Town Sitges

After the beach the town has plenty to offer in the way of food, drinks, and late night fun. The winding streets of the Old Town are chock full of restaurantsd and over twenty Gay bars. Sample the Pintxos at La Picara or treat yourself to sea views and the excellent gastronomy of Fragata.

When you're ready for a drink there are lots of options to choose from. The ever popular Parrots Bar - with its signature rainbow colored umbrellas - is often packed early in the evening. Directly across the Placa Industria from Parrots is Central Bar Both bars feature large outdoor seating areas, so you can look across the Plaza and take in all the sexy men across from you.

Walk east from Placa Industria along Carrrer de Joan Tarrida to find a handful of other gay bars and late night clubs including Man Bar and XXL.

Where to Stay

While there are tons of hotel options to choose from in Sitges, staying right at the beach has it's obvious advantages.

Favorite beachfront hotels include the URH Sitges Playa which looks directly over Platja San Sebastia, and the modern and stylish Hotel Calipolis adjacent to Platja de Sitges.

For a solid and comfortable option further in town check out Hotel Medium Sitges Park, which features a quiet pool and fabulous breakfast.
